The story takes place in Afghanistan and gives a very subtle gist of the place. It starts with two of the main characters named Mariam and her mother Nana. A very tragic tragedy takes place which made Mariam is made to marry Rasheed and was sent to Kabul

The plot of the story takes place in Afghanistan where 15-Year Mariam gets married to a 40-year-old man named Rasheed. Mariam used to live with her mother(called Nana). Due to uncertainty, she ends up losing her mother and then later is forcefully married to a 40-year man named Rasheed. Due to 7 miscarriages, Rasheed ends up marrying another 16- year old when he was 60 years! Laila lost her parents due to a bomb thrown at her house. Rasheed found her in the Drain. They had two children; a girl named Aziza & a boy Zalmai. Back then Laila had a lover named Tariq and Aziza was their daughter Now, Both Laila & Mariam faced abuse & had to live under the same roof. Mariam didn't like Laila at first and accused her of stealing her husband but later there was a friendship that sparked between them which made both of them escape Rasheed's abuse. The story ends with a happy note for one of them and the other is left all alone.
